“Stretch the Etruscan Horse”
inspiration
On a trip to Rome we were enthralled by the art of the Etruscans, who lived in central Italy from the 8th to the 3rd century BCE. They loved creating very elongated figures. Even more than 20 centuries ago artists’ imaginations soared!
technique
Using a small bronze sculpture that we bought in Rome as a reference, I calculated the proportions of a 34” armature of wire and acrylic sheeting, then covered it in Apoxy sculpting clay. I textured the clay by pressing in mesh fabric and painted it with house paint. I gave it a metallic bronze appearance with Art Alchemy beeswax paste.
